Dr. Lloyd Stegemann
Dr. Lloyd Stegemann completed his medical school training at the University of Texas in Houston, TX. He then entered into general surgery residency training at the University of Texas in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Stegemann became interested in bariatric surgery early on in his residency training and gained invaluable knowledge during this time. After completing residency, Dr. Stegemann entered into private practice with the most respected bariatric surgery practice in San Antonio. His practice, New Dimensions Weight Loss Surgery, performs over 500 weight loss operations each year and is considered one of the top private practice programs in the United States.
Dr. Stegemann performs 6-8 bariatric operations each week including gastric bypass, gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomies, and revision operations. Almost all of the operations performed by Dr. Stegemann are done laparoscopically. Dr. Stegemann serves as a proctor for Ethicon Endosurgery, traveling around the state of Texas teaching other surgeons the laparoscopic gastric bypass operation. He was recently was selected to be one of the first proctors in the US to be trained on the new Realize adjustable gastric band.
Dr. Stegemann has been instrumental in organizing the practice of bariatric surgery in the state of Texas. He organized the first meeting of bariatric surgeons in the state which led to the creation of the Texas Association of Bariatric Surgeons (TABS). The organization, under the leadership of Dr. Stegemann, has seen its membership and influence steadily grow. This year the group was able to introduce a bill into the Texas Legislature to improve patient access to this life saving surgery. Dr. Stegemann is also an active committee member in the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and is on the Advisory Board of the Obesity Action Coalition.
Dr. Stegemann is a sought after speaker by patients and professionals on the topic of obesity, weight loss surgery, and surgical aftercare. He has developed a post-operative program called The Prescription For Weight Loss Success© which has helped hundreds of patient's achieve long-term success after surgery. This program addresses the dietary, physical and emotional changes that a patient must make to maintain their weight loss. A book about this program is underway and is expected to be published soon.
Outside of the clinical setting, Dr. Stegemann enjoys spending time with his children, playing basketball, collecting antique microscopes, and traveling.
